How do you measure community well-being?

This study of Banff and Canmore communities in Alberta, Canada focused on what the proper redistribution of wealth would be to create a vibrant and resilient society.  The questions answered include:

  • what is the impact of implementing a living wage within protected areas?

  • how can communities organize to negotiate with environmental groups and private enterprises?

How does tax advocacy build community resilience?

This study focuses on East Africa where a significant percentage of revenues arising from tourism (approximately 60 to 75%) leaks away because of foreign ownership and imported resources, among other reasons.

  • The poorer the developing country, the higher the probability that gross expenditures for tourism are greater than earnings.

  • The more a developing country with a small internal market relies on luxury tourism, the greater the danger of high expenditures for imported luxury goods
